SSS Moments in Time Release TODAY!

Hi all!

Release day is always a fun day! New items showing up on my favorite sites to inspire and entice a purchase of fun new things...how can we resist?

Today is no exception with the Simon Says Stamp release, Moments in Time. I had the joy of being able to use a few of their items for this release, and they did NOT disappoint! I've shared one card over on my Instagram already today, and am here to share a different item from the release, the Ribbon Quilt die set.

I went a bit overboard with the die cutting from this set and name inspired this layout for sure! I am a huge fan of quilts with lots of colors and simple layouts. That is what I went with for this one.

The zigzag die was cut from white cardstock first and laid out on the card panel. The next step will help you use up your stash of DSP papers! 4 different patterns in each of the rainbow colors were chosen. Then they were all die cut using the square die in the set.

After all the papers were die cut, they were then laid out on a separate piece of cardstock in rainbow order while varying the placement of the patterns within the colors. The square die was then used again, but placed to cut 1/4 of each patterned paper to fill up the squares. After running this through the die cutter, a perfect quilted square was created! Then it's just plopping the squares into the open areas of the zigzag background to create the quilt pattern. Should I make a video explaining this? The rest of the card is finished with Simon Says Stamp Label Tags along with Spellbinders More Sentiments die and glimmer set for the strip down the side. The sentiment is from the new Vintage Blooms set, which I LOVE and will share more from that set soon!

I made so many of the quilted squares, I was able to also make another CAS card with the scraps! A two-fer! Gotta love that.

Lastly, I experimented a bit with this...not sure if I like it. I ink blended vertical stripes using masking tape. In hindsight, using card stock would have been easier, but I had an inspiration photo I was working from and didn't have cardstock to match the colors. So ink blending was the next best choice.

The colors used were Simon Says Stamp Aster, Pansy, Lilac, Orchid, Morning, Sky, Dusk, Night, Raindrop and Mist....FYI, these links include other color combos that would be great for this technique....Then die cut zigzags were placed over the stripes to give it a funky geometric feel.

Next, the sentiment was added using So Sorry. It was first stamped onto vellum paper with embossing ink, then heat embossed with white embossing powder and finally die cut with the coordinating die. A shadow layer die cut from the darkest blue card stock I had was added offset behind it for a shadow effect.

Lastly, Altenew enamel dots to match were added around the sentiment in the colors used. This card took a while to make, and while I'm not sure if I like how it came out, I like the design idea behind it. And it's always good to experiment when you're creating...it leads to bigger and better ideas!

That's it for me today, go check out the new release and come back this weekend for more release inspiration!

Have a colorful day!
